A record number of 175 golfers have registered for the Airtel Golf Tournament, prompting the sponsors to turn it into a two-day contest.

According to Airtel director of enterprise business Rachel Mijiga, the tournament at Country Club Limbe (CCL) in Blantyre was supposed to be played on Saturday but they have now decided to host it today and tomorrow.

“We, initially, planned to host 96 golfers this Saturday, but we have revised it to start from Friday so as to accommodate more golfers,” she said.

“As hosts of our first tournament this year, the overwhelming support that we have received from golfers has been amazing and we could not be more excited to engage and network with our clients this weekend.”

CCL golf captain Yotamu Saka said the tournament will tee off at 11.30am today with a shotgun and with the individual stable-ford format at 5.30am tomorrow.

Airtel Malawi communications manager Norah Chavula-Chirwa said each golfer will receive various branded Airtel items and the winners will take home various golfing paraphernalia as their prizes.

She said Airtel Malawi hosts annual golf tournaments, which feature seasoned golfers as well as Airtel’s partners, at various golf clubs across the country to engage and delight its clientele. n
