2 jailed for defiling daughters

Ntcheu first grade magistrate Jones Masula has sentenced two men to 12 and 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) respectively for defiling their stepdaughters.

In the first case, Masula sentenced Duncan Magwembele, 31, after being found guilty of defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter and infecting her with HIV and Aids.

The court heard that Magwembele, who comes from Mfulanjobvu Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nsamala in Balaka, defiled the girl on August 2 at Senzani in Ntcheu.

“The suspect was caught red-handed by his wife defiling the girl. He was arrested after the wife shouted for help,” explained Ntcheu Police deputy spokesperson Hastings Chigalu.

Magistrate Masula slapped him with 12 years IHL.

In the other matter, the same court sentenced Joshua Mapemba, 39, to 10 IHL for defiling his 10-year-old stepdaughter.

Prosecution told the court that Mapemba defiled the girl twice on July 21 and 22 at Kasisi Village, T/A Phambala in the district and was also caught red-handed by his wife.

Mapemba comes from Kadambo Village, T/A Bvumbwe in Thyolo District.
