Balaka Police Station spokesperson Joseph Sauka told Nation Online the nine police officers were from Police Mobile Service (MPS).
The accident, Sauka said, happened at Chiyendausiku from where victims were rushed to Balaka District Hospital where other officers that were taken there alive died.
Other police sources said the Land Cruiser, which the officers were using, missed the road and rolled several times, throwing out and killing some of the officers on the spot.
The police sources said the vehicle was the last car on the presidential convoy, which normally cruises between 120 and 150 kilometres per hour, according to sources that have been privileged to be on the convoy.
