A happy home

Listen to this article

A home begins when a man and a woman are joined together in holy matrimony. A home can be a place of harmony and contentment; or of tension and strife. Is your home happy, strong, and able to survive the storms of life? The Bible gives us the blue print of a home that is beautiful in design, solid in structure, and pleasant in atmosphere.

A home is an important social unit. It is divinely ordained for our physical fulfillment, emotional happiness, and spiritual development. God’s plan has always been that we should bring happiness to one another.

Why then are many homes unhappy? Why are they being broken by fightings, separation, and divorce?

Within His word is found the needed building material for a happy home. Homes built according to His word are places of love, trust, mutual interest, and unselfish service one to another.

Such homes will bring happiness into our lives, and preserve our communities and nations. Are you following the plan of God, the master architect? Remember that ‘Except the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it’ Psalm 127:1.

The foundation of our future homes is actually laid in youth. A pure life is an important ingredient in our preparation for marriage. Premarital sinfulness undermines moral stability and places the future marriage in danger. A life of self-centredness and self-gratification in our youth sets a pattern of living that wrecks havoc in marriage. The high rate of divorce is sufficient proof of these facts. These sins must be thoroughly repented before there can be a new life in Christ. The past can then be laid to rest and God will enter with His blessings.

The Bible says we are to marry ‘only in the Lord’ (Corinthians 7:39).This means that both man and woman have surrendered their lives to the Lord. God must have the first place.

When man, woman or both are selfish, where will the basis of mutual happiness come from?
