Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) has called for elections in Southern, Central and Northern Region committees between June 30 and July 2.

AAM general secretary Frank Chitembeya told The Nation yesterday that positions of chairperson, vice-chairperson, general secretary, vice-general secretary, treasurer and vice-treasurer will be up for grabs in the Centre at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe on June 30.

Chitembeya: Candidates should have
no criminal record

The same will happen on July 2 at Machinga Teachers Development Centre in the South and Mzuzu Museum in the North.

“Aspirants of various positions should submit applications to their respective regional committee general secretaries by June 26,” he said.

“All interested candidates should have been in athletics for a minimum of three years and should have no criminal record.”

Eligible voters will be all the six members of each regional athletics committee and three representatives from each AAM registered athletics club within the committee’s fold.

In all the regions, incumbent chairpersons will not fight to retain their positions after being elected into the AAM executive committee recently. North chairperson Emmanuel Mlonya is now AAM vice-president while his counterparts in the South and the Centre Christopher Kabwazi and John Mwathiwa are AAM treasurer and vice-treasurer, respectively.

AAM officials and regional sports development officers are expected to preside over the elections. n
