Airtel Malawi donates K0.5m to Nyika Media Club

Airtel Malawi on Thursday donated K500, 000 to Nyika Media Club for it to fulfill its social responsibility programmes this festive season.

The mobile phone network provider made the donation in Mzuzu during a cocktail it organized for the northern region based journalists.

Airtel Malawi’s Public Relations Manager Edith Tsilizani said the company appreciates the social responsibility Nyika Media Club plays in the region such as visiting the sick in hospitals and orphan centres among others.

“As much as we expect the media to be writing and publishing stories, it is pleasing to note that journalist are also concerned with the needs of the vulnerable people in society,” Tsilizani said.

She added that the club’s gesture is in line with Airtel Malawi’s corporate social responsibility of changing people’s lives.

Receiving the cheque, chairperson for Nyika Media Club, Chimbizga Msimuko, said the club is overwhelmed with the donation.

He thanked Airtel Malawi for the donation and assured the company that the money will be used for its intended purpose.

Nyika Media Club is grouping of northern region based journalists aimed at providing a forum for media practitioners to meet and exchange ideas. It is also aimed at providing a forum for the journalists to interact in a social atmosphere with people from all sectors of society.

As part of its social responsibility, the club routinely cheers the sick, visits orphan centres and the elderly, among others.
