APM graces Chingazi Parish jubilee
Chingazi Mtima Woyera Parish in Thyolo in the Archdiocese of Blantyre yesterday celebrated its golden jubilee which President Peter Mutharika graced.
Archbishop Thomas Msusa of the archdiocese led a mass celebration at a ceremony which saw Pius Chilimba being ordained as a priest.
In his speech after the church service, Msusa thanked Mutharika, who comes from the same area, Goliati, for sparing his time and participating in the event marking 50 years of Chingazi Parish’s existence.
Msusa said: “Mr President, let’s pray together and celebrate this golden jubilee. You have been with us here all this time, that’s good spirit. When the priests’ house caught fire here sometime back, you came and helped us with iron sheets.”
Msusa, turning to the newly ordained priest, said the church was sending him to go out and preach the word of God.
Addressing the gathering, Mutharika wished the Church and the parish all the best as they celebrated the golden jubilee and ordination of the priest.
He said government appreciates the role the church plays and assured that his government will continue to work together with the church.
The parish, which was established in 1964, has 16 000 Christians, according to announcements at the event.
