BB to face Reds in Carlsberg semis
The Carlsberg Cup semi-finals draw held yesterday at Balaka Stadium has pitted Red Lions against Nyasa Big Bullets while Moyale Barracks will host Be Forward Wanderers.
Bullets qualified for the semi-finals after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Masters Security Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League side Cobbe Barracks at Balaka Stadium yesterday.
On the other hand, Lions booted out Chipiku Stores Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Premier Division side Kasungu Police 3-1 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Kondwani ‘Scholes’ Kumwenda scored Bullets’ lone goal in the 66th minute following a well-curled free kick from Yamikani Fodya.
Bullets team manager James Chilapondwa admitted that it was a tough match.
Cobbe coach Chifundo Masapula accepted defeat, saying: “We were not good enough going forward as Bullets defenders frustrated our efforts.”
In the match between Lions and Kasungu Police, the Zomba-based Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side scored through Lottie Chawinga, Kumbukani Mwambene and Boniface Kaulesi (twice) while Robert Nkhono scored the consolation goal for the cops.n
