Nyasa Big Bullets fan Billy Severe has pleaded not guilty to the charge of assaulting Principal Secretary for the Ministry  of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Sam Madula.

The assault happened during the Luso TV Bus Ipite Bonanza second leg tie between Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium on Monday.

Pleaded not guilty: Severe

According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula Severe commonly known as ‘Billy One’ appeared at the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday afternoon where he was officially charged with “assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 254 of the Penal Code.

“He has pleaded not guilty to the charge so the matter will go for trial set for 27 January, 2017,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dandaula has said  the court has granted Severe bail on, among other conditions, that he should appear at police every two weeks and pay a bail bond of K10 000.

“Added to that he has also been told that he must not leave Blantyre, his city of residence, without seeking permission from the police,” Dandaula stated.

Severe was represented by lawyer Shadreck Mhango.

Police said the assault happened when Severe wanted to go to the VIP Stand where he was stopped by some officials including Madula who argued that the section was reserved for VIP ticket holders only. Reacting to his being stopped, the suspect hit the PS “leaving him with a terribly injured left eye.”

Madula told The Nation on Tuesday that he has been treated at the hospital and was feeling “a little bit better.” n
