When the cat is away, the mice will play, so the saying goes.

The TNM Super League top four positions are usually dominated by Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers.

However, the three giants were busy with the Airtel Top 8, giving a chance to minnows PremierBet, Mzuzu University (Mzuni) and leaders Red Lions to dominate the log table.

This afternoon, secondplaced PremierBet Wizards and third-placed Mzuni will have to prove they deserve their positions as they face the Nomads and Bullets, respectively.

Bullets, who are on position six, already launched their campaign to reclaim the top positions.

They beat Civil Sporting Club and Blantyre United in their last two Super League matches, after getting knocked out of the Airtel Top 8.

This afternoon, they host Mzuni at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo and a victory can take them to position two. After months of despair, Bullets seem to have turned a new chapter. Coach Nsanzurwimo Ramahdan is optimistic that they can extend their two wins in this afternoon’s match.

“We hope to build from the two matches performance,” he said.

Wanderers, on the other hand, will be playing their second Super League match. They beat Kamuzu Barracks in the 2017 season re-launch match at Bingu National Stadium. Now they are back in the league title campaign after losing to Silver in the final.

Team manager Steve Madeira said they have to put behind the disappointing loss to Silver and focus on the league title.

“The Airtel Top 8 is in the past. Now we have to focus on winning the league title,” he said.

After winning the Airtel Top 8, Silver are in high spirits.

But Kamuzu Barracks are hoping to spoil the party as the Bankers host the league champions at Civo Stadium.

It will be a grudge-match since KB are still in pain after they were knocked out of the Airtel Top 8 by the Bankers in the semi-final. But coach Lovemore Fazili said they are ready to repeat the feat by beating KB.

In other matches, leaders Red Lions can extend their tally at the top if they overcome Azam Tigers at Balaka Stadium.
