Nyasa Big Bullets has established a special committee to analyse the club’s viability as a commercial entity to potential investors.

Bullets general secretary Kelvin Moyo told The Nation yesterday that the club’s executive has decided to draft into the committee the likes of Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary (GS) Suzgo Nyirenda and former chairpersons Malinda Chinyama and Trouble Kalua to explore the move.

The other committee members are former FAM GS Charles Nyirenda,  former Bullets vice-chairperson Sadik Malinga, ex-Bullets player Mustapha Munshi, lawyer Madalitso Mmeta, trustee Gaston Mwenelupembe and main supporters committee chairperson Stone Mwamadi.

According to Moyo, Bullets’ secretariat, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) will also be involved.

“We have given the committee 30 days to come up with a report on how the club can attract investors under its trusteeship status,” said Moyo.

“We need to know how ownership will be handled and how we will be electing our leaders if investors come in. Do we need to review our constitution to suit these developments? The committee has been given the responsibility to analyse such possibilities.”

According to Moyo, they have deliberately involved respectable individuals from diverse backgrounds because they want to make sure their commercialisation drive is legally binding.

He said the decision to come up with the committee was one of the recommendations made during Bullets’ recent extraordinary general meeting (EGM) and the list of members was made after a consultative process.

“We want to make sure all the misconceptions about the club’s commercialisation process are cleared in a very transparent and professional manner before the real work begins. We need to have a legally binding process that will be acceptable by all the stakeholders,” Moyo said.

Chinyama yesterday confirmed being approached by Bullets to be in the steering committee, saying he is ready to help the club live its commercialisation dream.

“Although we have not sat down to discuss the whole set-up of the committee, I am willing to help the club. It is a challenging task to put ideas together, but we will make it,” he said.

FAM GS Nyirenda could not be reached for his comment at press time.

While commending the commercialisation idea, the team’s former chairperson, Sunduzwayo Madise, said what matters most is how the committee will come up with the strategies.

“So far I cannot comment much save to say the idea to make the club a profit-oriented entity is one that was tried before using a different corporate personality. I am, therefore, keen to find out the innovations that the committee may come up with as regards the commercialisation of Bullets as a trust. This is interesting,” Madise said. n
