Beam wins education award in Mzuzu

Mzuzu district education manager’s office has named Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust as the best development partner in promoting access to quality education.

The First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s trust outsmarted 10 shortlisted organisations win the award in recognition  of outstanding interventions to improve education standards and access.

The awards were part of the commemoration of the World Education Day on Friday.

Beam regional coordinator Rebecca Chirwa expressed gratitude for scooping the first prize, saying the trust is committed to addressing challenges facing the education sector to ensure every Malawian child learns.

Among other things, Beam has built school blocks, girls’ hostels and toilets in some schools.

“We have done a lot and we want to provide sanitation facilities and build classroom blocks in more schools,” she said.

Presenting the award, Mzuzu City  mayor William Mkandawire thanked all development partners for their efforts to restore education standards in the city’s schools.

He conferred certificates on Beam and nine other organisations which work to create an enabling teaching and learning environment in schools.

They include SOS, Mary’s Meals, Plan Malawi, Luke International, Ungweru, St John of God, Malawi Red Cross Society and National Bank of Malawi. n
