Big Bullets FC have said they will be on a double mission when they engage Zimbabwean side Caps United this afternoon in the second edition of the Zambezi Challenge Cup at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote yesterday said apart from the K3 million (US$6 667) winner’s purse, the match will also provide them an opportunity to tune up ahead of their CAF Champions League first round, first-leg contest against Sudanese giants Al Hilal scheduled for next weekend in Omdurman in Sudan.

Bullets_celebrate“We are relishing the opportunity of winning the match because the prize money could go a long way in meeting the costs of our trip to Sudan as we have quite a significant shortfall.

“The match will also give the coaching panel a chance to tune up for the match against Al Hilal and work on the shortfalls that were noted against Fomboni FC [from the Comoros],” said Fote.

The Bullets spokesperson also appealed to their fans not to lose faith in their team following their unimpressive showing against Fomboni in which the hosts gave away a two-goal first half  lead to be held 2-all.

Caps United’s Malawian defender George Nyirenda who is captaining the side, said they will be out to defend the cup they won last year after beating Silver Strikers in the finals.

“It will also be good to face my former team at Kamuzu Stadium. It will definitely bring back good memories of my stint with them,” he said.

Apart from Nyirenda, Caps are also expected to feature two other Malawians—Ishmael Thindwa and Gerald Phiri Jnr, who scored both goals, when the Green Machine beat Silver Strikers 2-0 in a friendly match played in Lilongwe.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the Zambezi Challenge Cup Organising Committee, Kelvin Moyo, has announced entry charges for the match. The Open Stands is pegged at K1 000, MBC Stands: K1 500, Covered Stands K2 500 and VIP: K5 000.

The match will kickoff at 2.30pm.
