Big up Grace!

Listen to this article

The first time I spoke to Grace ‘Obama’ Chiumia was soon after her appointment as Minister of Sports and Culture in 2014 and I instantly got charmed with the sweetness in the tone of her voice.

Throughout our conversation, she kept calling me ‘Mr. Garry’ and it felt so good.  Since then, I have interacted with her quite a couple of times and with time, she is coping up  and understands that a Cabinet portofolio is a demanding task diffrent from being  chairperson of kitchen top ups , organising bridal showers or heading a village bank.

She has demonstrated a lot of passion towards her work. I was, therefore, surprised to learn of her absence in Parliament last Tuesday where she was expected to help out her Finance, Economic Planning and Development colleague Goodall Gondwe in justifying a vote by her ministry to increase its 2016/17 budget with over K1 billion.

Well, the  reason for her absence has not been explained, but perhaps she might have been preoccupied with other pressing issues or indeed household chores like kuyanikamphale and getting rid of cob webs at her  minesterial residence.

Nevertheless,  madamChiumia did it to perfection  last Friday when she appeared in the August House and justified the budget  hike proposal. She also spoke with confidence.

Big up, your honour, for convincing the house to approve the extra funding allocation, I am sure part of it will go towards my beloved Flames for their Guinea foray.

You demonstrated that you can do more than just delivering speeches at functions. For that, I will buy you a Brazilian weave, crop tops complete with skinny jeans and tights- sports minister  has to appear funky….ukitiukiti. We have seen enough of your trademark tradional wear lol! Uloliwe, uloliwewayidudulaneng’asizahaaa…(the train is pushing). Glory be to God.
