Struggling Super League outfit Blantyre United has fired its assistant coach Steve Mbulaje and team manager Mike Kachiwala.

The decision was made almost at the same time Silver Strikers suspended their entire Franco Ndawa-led coaching panel.

United’s technical director Lawson Nakoma confirmed the removal of the duo saying it was more to do with technical logistics.

“I wouldn’t be comfortable with the term ‘firing’, but rather we have parted ways amicably due to several factors.

“However, the main reason is because we had a bloated coaching panel and we thought it wise to review its composition,” said Nakoma.

He played down suggestions that Mbulaje and Kachiwala might have been removed due to the team’s unimpressive performance so far this season.

“Not really, I wouldn’t say it is related to the team’s performance,” said Nakoma.

Following the development, coach Elia Kananji will only have one deputy Simeon Kapuza.

Nakoma also said they have finalised registration of former Mighty Wanderers midfielder Nafe Msasa and striker Anthony Banda who were dismissed on disciplinary grounds.
