The Alumni of Zomba Catholic Secondary School (AZCSS), popularly known as ‘Box 2’, have condemned student protests and violence at the school on Monday evening.
During the incident, students damaged school property in protest of the school management’s decision to dismiss a Form Four student who was allegedly found drunk on campus.

The school closed early for Easter holidays following the fracas.
In a statement signed by AZCSS board chairperson Thom Mpinganjira and secretary Chancy Gondwe, the alumni have expressed disappointment with the conduct of the students, describing it as shameful.

The former students, who recently embarked on a project to rehabilitate the school, have since urged the school administration to take disciplinary action against the perpetrators of what they call unwarranted protests, in line with the school rules and regulations.

Reads the statement in part: “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the sad and unbecoming behaviour of the students. We especially condemn the violence and the behaviour of the students during the protests.

“Violence and damage to property have no place at our campus. This translates to lawlessness. It is utterly regrettable that the students conducted themselves in such a shameful manner.”
Commenting on the matter, Zomba Police Station spokesperson Patricia Supuliano said no student has been arrested so far following the fracas.
