Breaking News: APM fires Chaponda

President Peter Mutharika has fired Agriculture Minister George Chaponda on the back of investigations into the purchase of maize as well as a search and seizure exercise that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out yesterday.

Among other things, the ACB seized more than K160 million in cash of local and foreign currencies at Chaponda’s house in Lilongwe.  The bureau also carried out a search and seizure operation on Admarc and TransGlobe Produce Export Limited. More information will follow soon.
