Blantyre United and Mighty Wanderers FC will this weekend host Mozambican club CD Matchedje in international pre-season build-up games.

The Mozambican club, which was relegated from the flagship Mocambola League last season, is expected to face Blantyre United on Saturday before lining up against Mighty Wanderers on Sunday.

Both games will be played at Kamuzu Stadium.

Matchedje, who are coming as guests of United, are expected in the country tomorrow (Thursday).

United’s chairperson Lawson Nakoma and Mighty Wanderers general secretary David Kanyenda confirmed the Mozambican team’s visit.

“They are coming as our guests, but they asked us to arrange another friendly game for them and we approached Wanderers who have accepted the offer,” said Nakoma.

Nakoma and Kanyenda said apart from helping their teams to tune up for the forthcoming season, the games will also help them to raise funds from the gates.

Said Kanyenda: “We are, therefore, appealing to our fans as well as all soccer lovers to come and watch the games because we will field our best teams.”

Nakoma said the Mozambican club is looking for a local top striker to help them earn promotion back to the Mocambola league.

Former Escom United, Big Bullets, Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers winger Emmanuel ‘Eke’ Chipatala had a stint with the Mozambican team last season.
