Blantyre Zero beat Skippers 2-0 in a pre-season friendly match at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe, Blantyre on Saturday to perfectly avenge their loss to the Lilongwe-based outfit in 2013.

The two sides were meeting for the second time ever as prolific striker Temwa Chawinga and enterprising winger Pilirani Malora scored for Zero to wipe off the shame that Zero experienced during the 2013 Presidential Women Football Cup semifinal.

Malora (in red) scored Zero’s second goal

“They [Skippers] beat us by the same score-line in 2013 and we are delighted to have successfully avenged our loss today,” said Zero’s coach-and-player Maggie Chombo-Sadiki after the game.
Skippers’ captain Linda Kasenda attributed the defeat to the team’s poor coordination and lack of zeal to score.

“I do not know what happened to us today. We had numerous scoring opportunities, especially, in the second half but we fluffed them off. We will try to rectify our mistakes as we take on Ntopwa Super Girls tomorrow [yesterday],” she said.

Chawinga scored deep in the first half through a penalty after Skippers’ defender handled the ball in the box while Malora made a solo effort count with a thunderbolt 20 minutes to time.
Skippers visited fellow women football giants in Blantyre as part of the series of strength-testing matches among Skippers, Zero and Ntopwa.
