Polytechnic and Mota-Engil on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will that see students from the constituent college of the University of Malawi attached to the engineering company to get experience.
The MoU, which will involve the company offering awards to outstanding students, will mainly benefit students doing civil engineering courses.
Mota-Engil managing director Jose Dinis said the MoU will open a window of employment to graduating engineers who will have an opportunity to get experience.
“They will become better civil engineers and technicians who would in future be useful to the development of Malawi.
“Mota-Engil has now been working in Malawi for 20 years and for the company to remain here this long is not by chance. It is because of the friendly-working environment provided by communities,” said Dinis.
Polytechnic principal Professor Grant Kululanga said the annual award will enhance competition among the students and appealed to other companies to emulate the Mota-Engil’s gesture.
Mota-Engil is involved in the construction of roads, rail, mining, logistics and shipping.
