This year’s Easter Cantata organised by the Blantyre Joint Choir on Sunday at St Michael and All Angels Church’s Multipurpose Hall, for the first time brought together different churches.

Easter Cantata tells the story of Jesus Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection through gospel music.

Blantyre Joint Choir- CantataThe event’s chairperson, Gospel Mavutula, said it has always been their wish that different churches should come together and experience the suffering of Jesus Christ through gospel music.

“I believe there is power in unity and it is pleasing to see different churches come together and witness this Easter Cantata, the first of its kind since 1977 when Blantyre Joint Choir was formed,” said Mavutula.

During the Cantata, choral groups from CCAP, Anglican and CFC sang together. Choirs that graced this year’s Cantata included Michiru CCAP Joint Choir, Christ the King of Soche Anglican Church, Chilomoni Anglican Youth Choir, CFC Praise Team and host Blantyre Joint Choir.

Pastor Jeremiah Chikhwaza delivered to the gathering the day’s spiritual message which focussed on wisdom of God and foolishness of the world.
