A charity golf organised by the Capital City Lions Golf at the Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday raised K2 million.

The MDF team comprising former commander General Henry Odillo, retired deputy commander Lieutenant General John Msonthi Jnr, Colonel Chikunkha Soko and Justin Mkandawire won the tournament with 99 points.

On fourth position with 86 points was Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) comprising Stafford Mpoola, Master Mbale, Collin Sibande and Mphatso Chazama.

Twenty-one teams, a field of 21 players took part in the tournament.

Capital City Lions president Chisomo Gunda thanked the companies, which sponsored the 21 teams, for responding to charity works.

“The money raised will go towards Lingadzi River which has experienced environmental degradation. In the past year, our focus was on Malingunde Dam where we planted 5 000 trees we thought of doing the same with Lingadzi River so as to preserve the water source. We have raised K2 million, but once we collect all the pledges we expect to have K2.5 million,” said Gunda.

“Capital Lions are doing a great job in environmental areas and we thought this is a noble cause. We have participated in some charitable golf such as the Lingadzi CCAP Charity Golf. We managed to win that too,” said General Odillo, who captains the MDF team.
