CCJP poised to address social ills in Mangochi

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in the Diocese of Mangochi has pledged to address problems faced by vulnerable groups in Mangochi District to ensure that primary justice is accessed by all.

CCJP diocesan secretary for Mangochi Diocese, which covers Mangochi, Machinga and Balaka, Bruno Banda, made the pledge in the district on Monday when announcing a one-year bridge project.

Banda: This new project is poised to bring change

“This new project is poised to bring change to the communities in the sense that it will address gender-based violence that women suffer at the hands of their husbands,” he said.

Banda said the project will also address issues of early and forced child marriages as it would empower tribunals to help those who have been abused.

The project will be implemented in the areas of six traditional authorities (T/As), namely Bwananyambi, Jalasi, Chowe, Mponda, Chimwala and Nankumba.

Commenting on the project, an official from Rights Advice Centre, Madalitso Masache, commended the introduction of the project, saying it will assist  helpless people to access justice as this is a fundamental human right.

CCJP is implementing the project with financial support from UK Aid’s Department for International Development (DfID). n
