The Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) has appealed Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) disciplinary committee’s decision to dissolve the body’s executive committee.

Basmal dissolved Cezobal executive committee on January 23 after finding it guilty of insubordination and misconduct.

But in the appeal letter, dated January 29 addressed to Basmal disciplinary committee and Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS), Cezobal has described reasons raised by Basmal to dissolve their committee as mere allegations not worthy to warrant the full dissolution.

The appeal letter, signed by Cezobal general secretary Peter Gomani, further states that the dissolution of the committee on the grounds that they hosted a Tanzanian club without Basmal and MNCS approval is irrelevant.

“We are surprised that you indicated that we hosted Tanzanian club without approval.

“That is a false statement because some of the Basmal officials were part of the competition’s organising committee.”

The letter also states that Cezobal communicated to Basmal the reasons why they failed to attend the disciplinary hearing.

“We wrote you that people in the committee have formal employment and the time frame did not provide adequate notice to furnish employers for permission to attend [the hearing],” the appeal letter further reads.

Basmal general secretary Edgar Ng’ong’ola acknowledged receiving the appeal letter.

He, however, refused to comment on the development saying he needed more time to go through the appeal documents.
