Chiefs want homo laws reviewed

Chiefs in Kasungu have stressed the need for government to review laws on homosexuality reviewed.

Speaking during an interface meeting organised by Centre for the Development of People (Cedep) in the district, the traditional leaders confessed to having homosexuals in their communities, but did not know how to handle them.

Traditional Authority (T/A) Chidzuma said the chiefs have been enlightened that such people are just like anybody else and have the right to freely live in the country.

T/A Chilowamatambe also said: “The issue of re-looking at our laws might take some time. While we are working on that, it is important for authorities to consider supporting those who are homosexuals due to circumstances such as prisoners.”

Other chiefs present at the meeting that took place at Kasungu District Council were Mwase, Njombwa and a representative of Senior Chief Kaomba.

Cedep programmes manager Rodney Chalera said the meeting was part of advocacy programmes the organisation continues to run to effect change in people.
