Chikwawa United get players boost

Rookies Chikwawa United have received a boost following the return from injury of three of their four key players ahead of this weekend’s TNM Super League game against Epac.

The Lower Shire side lost 3-0 and 2-1 to Mafco and Support Battalion respectively on Saturday and Sunday at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, a development Chikwawa general secretary Evance Saiti attributed to the absence of the injured players.

“The performance was okay in both games, but we lacked experience. We just need to do one or two things. We need a midfielder who can create chances for strikers. But we also we need to pay attention to the defence,” said Saiti.

“We were also affected by injuries of our four regulars and we are happy that three of them, namely Ian Banda, Joseph Kankhuni and Bright Mphamba are back in training. Khumbo Banda is still injured though,” he said.

Meanwhile, Saiti said the team’s football director, Gerald Phiri Senior, who is linked with a move to Mighty Wanderers, has assured them that he is staying put. Phiri is currently with the Malawi Under-20 side in Botswana.

“We are in touch with him on a daily basis and he keeps on assuring us that he is still with us,” Saiti said about Phiri who works alongside Coach Richard Fosiko.
