Middleweight boxer Chimwemwe Chiotcha has described Alick Mwenda’s challenge for a non-title fight today as an ‘insult’ to his career.

Chiotcha said this when he visited Nation offices in Lilongwe on Thursday.

“I want to put it on record that I did not want to fight him because he is below my class. But I have accepted this challenge because opting out would be misinterpreted by some people to mean that I am afraid of him. I will punish him on Saturday. Believe me, it will be the end of his boxing career,” he said.

The two boxers clash in a main supporting bout for the Osgood Kayuni and Crispin Moliati fight at the Summit Cultural Centre.

Initially, the contests were planned for tomorrow.

Chiotcha dismissed suggestion that he has accepted the fight because of the K200 000 winner’s purse.

“It is not about the money, but like I said, I am angry with him and that is all. The fact that he has defeated Brain Mwando is not a yardstick to challenge me. He has made a big mistake. He will pay for it dearly,” said Chiotcha who has won all the three fights he has fought against Mwenda.

On his part, Mwenda said it will be folly for Chiotcha to dwell on past glories.

“All I want is smart boxing, not street fighting. He should not judge me by my past fights. I have improved my game so much and I will show him in the ring,” said Mwenda.

The two Malawi Defence Force boxers are stationed at Kamuzu Barracks.

The fights have been organised by Fast Boxing Promotions.
