Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Chimwemwe Chiotcha’s dream of a shot at an international title  will be realised. He is set to fight Namibian Walter Kautondokwa for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) middleweight belt in Windhoek on October 8.

The 12-round bout has been brokered by Craig Rousseau but is sponsored by Nestor Tobias of Sunshine Productions.

Rousseau said this is an opportunity for Malawi to win an international belt.

“It is nice that he did well last Sunday against the Tanzanian [Salei Mkwalekwa]. It is indeed time to give Chiotcha a chance to compete for an international belt,” he said.

In an interview Chiotcha said he is ready for the challenge.

“It is something that I always wanted. I am tired of fighting low-rated boxers. I need a shot at continental and global titles. This affords me an opportunity to win a recognised title,” he said.

Soon after the fight against Mkwalekwa, which he won through technical knockout (TKO) in fourth round, Chiotcha challenged his promoter Jason Bowler to give him title fight.

“We work together with Mr. Craig of No Pain No Gain. The process for the WBO fight started a while back. He is a good boxer and we will give him the necessary support for him to win,” said Bowler.

Chiotcha, who is being trained by Godfrey Jalare and Osgood Kayuni, will camp in Liwonde.

“I am not leaving any stone unturned. For me to be well focussed I need to camp in Liwonde. This is an opportunity for me to prove my worth and make my country proud,” said Chiotcha.n
