Chipapapa earns Tay Grin another award

Rapper Limbani Kalilani aka Tay Grin continues to fly high as he has won a gong in the 2016 WatsUp TV Africa Music Awards.

Last week, his latest hit video Chipapapa, which features Nigeria’s 2Baba, emerged the best African traditional video during the annual awards which celebrate and honour the best music videos on the continent.

The triumph of Chipapapa video did not come easily.

It outclassed  numerous videos by big names, including including Ferrari by Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Osinarchy by Humblesmith feat David (Nigeria), We Are All Africans by Mzee and Rafiti and Salif Keita (South Africa), Njogereza by Navio (Uganda) and Memege Mmege by Flavour and Selebobo (Nigeria).

Other nominees included Money by Timaya feat Flavour (Nigeria), Brother Brother by Bisakdei (Ghana), Atongo by 4×4 feat Bukbak (Ghana) and Ko Nashize by Knoweless Butera (Rwanda).

Tay Grin said his victory on the continental stage was great honour to Malawian and African talent.

“This just shows that we are doing great. I dedicate this award to all supporters of African talent, particularly Malawi which is currently pushing hard,” he said.

The awards nominations and winners are chosen by the public and a special jury.

Tay Grin hailed his fans in the country and abroad for giving him the vital votes.

“Africa has shown Malawi love,” he said.

Locally, Chipapapa also won Best Video of the Year accolade in 2016 Urban Music Party (UMP) Festival.
