Chisambo wins TNM Malawi Open

George Chisambo on Sunday emerged the winner of TNM Malawi Open Golf at the Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).

The three-day golf tournament drew over 100 golfers from all the golf clubs in the country.

Chisambo grossed 232. Ganizani Rusho was the runner-up with a gross score of 243. He counted out Gabriel Kambale.

Chisambo received a Huawei P10 Smartphone and a trophy as his prizes.

Naan Kalaria grossed 167 to emerge A Division winner while Brigadier General Chikunkha Soko was second with 168 after counting out Charles Mvula.

The winner in B Division was Geoffrinie Kondwani with a 181 gross score. Lucky Penemulungu was the runner-up on 184 gross while Hermant Baghart was third with 192 gross score.

Paul Chidale won the professional division.

In his victory speech, Chisambo said: “This is the biggest golf tournament in the land, which every golfer looks forward to every year. I am the happiest person today to have beaten most of the best golfers in the land. Many appreciation to TNM for the wonderful organisation and also the prizes.”

TNM plc said they are celebrating 11 years of partnership with the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) through sponsorship of the biggest golf tournament in the country.

TNM chief sales and marketing officer Daniel Makata said the 11-year sponsorship of tournament underscores their commitment towards golf.

“TNM, which has been sponsoring the Malawi Open since 2007, remains committed to developing the sport, which provides a platform for business executives to interact and share notes on a wide range of industry, business and national interest issues.

“This tournament has helped in the development of golf in the country as demonstrated by the level of competition that our golfers have shown on the greens locally and internationally through the participation in the international tournaments such as Zone VI for the past 11 years,” he said.

Golf Union of Malawi President Hudson Kantwanje LGC captain Patridge Shycal also commended TNM for the continued sponsorship.
