Chitipa coach remains optimistic

Chitipa United coach Kondwani Mwalweni has said although his team is yet to register a win in the TNM Super League, he is hopeful that they will catch up.

After holding giants Nyasa Big Bullets to a goalless draw in their opening game, the rookies have lost three consecutive games to PremierBet Wizards away (2-0), Blantyre United (4-0)  and just last weekend they went down 0-1 to Red Lions at home in Mzuzu.

Mwalweni: It is
too early

They are currently second from the bottom of the 16-team league with a single point.

But  Mwalweni said it is too early to count out his team as relegation battlers.

“We have a good team, we just need to polish up one or two areas. Against Lions, we dominated the proceedings, especially in the second half. It was unfortunate that we failed to utilise the chances we created,” he said.

The Zomba-based soldiers, who scored the lone goal against Chitipa through Lottie Chawinga, are joint leaders with Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC on eight points. PremierBet Wizards also have eight points but are third due to an inferior goal difference.

Ironically, champions Kamuzu Barracks FC anchor the table with a point from one game, but their coach Billy Phambala said it is not surprising as they have only played one game due to Airtel Top 8 commitments.
