Speaking during the function, Chiyembekeza said 33 football teams and 23 netball teams have already registered to compete in the tournament.
“K5 million is already put aside for teams to compete for and our target are that we finish the tournament in July this year. Everything is set, and the tournament kicks off today [Sunday],” he said.
Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) board chairperson James Chuma, who was the guest of honour, thanked the minister for the tournament and pledged to donate kits to two teams.
“This is what we want; we need players from here to play in the national football and netball teams. But for that to happen, we need to start developing the game from the grass roots,” he said. 
