Civo aim for back-to-back wins over Mzuni

Civo United coach Oscar Kaunda has said his team is hoping for back-to-back victories against Mzuni United as the two teams meet this afternoon in the second round of the TNM Super League at Civo Stadium.

When the two teams met in the first round at Mzuzu Stadium, Civo won 1-0.

Kaunda said his side aims to finish in the top five to be eligible for Standard Bank Knockout Cup, as such there will be no mercy for the struggling rookies who are third from the bottom on 16 points.

“We are taking this game seriously and want to make up for lost points in the first round. We are training hard and want results on Friday, “ said an upbeat Kaunda in an interview on Wednesday on the sidelines of their morning training session.

The Civil Servants have 23 points from 18 games and are ninth on the table.

He downplayed the absence of injured defender Patience Kalumo and striker Victor Mpinganjira.

Kalumo is nursing a thigh injury and will be out for some weeks, according to Kaunda.

“Of course, the two are some of our key players but we have options, “ said Kaunda.

Mzuni United assistant coach Jomo Ngonga said their aim is to collect maximum points.

“Our target is to stay in the Super League and for that to happen, we need to be winning games,” said Ngonga on Thursday.
