Malawi’s former Big Brother Africa (BBA) representative, Code Sangala alias CO, will host the inaugural Urban Music Part (UMP) fashion night and media awards slated for November 5 at Game Stores’ underground car park.

CO will host the event alongside Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s (MBC) Radio 2 personality Juliet Royo.Code-Sangala

Fashion Night is a new package introduced this year by the organisers of the annual UMP, Nde’feyo Entertainment.

“Nde’feyo Entertainment have unbundled the fashion show from the main festival event. On the eve of the UMP Awards, there will be a UMP Fashion night. This is an event where the crème de la crème of the fashion will converge to showcase their designs.

Also, on the menu for the night will the Media Awards, where UMP Fest will be rewarding excellence in the media fraternity in as far as music is concerned,” said Ken Limamwe, director of Nde’feyo Entertainment.

He said the UMP festival plans to transform Game Complex Underground Car Park from just a car park to an exquisite arena befitting this red carpet event. Music performances will complement the Fashion showcase and Media awards.

CO said he was excited to be part of the initiative which seeks to promote Malawian urban talent and lifestyle.

“This is a rare opportunity to be part of UMP’s mission to uplifting Malawi urban talent and culture. I can’t wait to host the event with much energy and passion,” said CO.

Before the Fashion Night and media gala awards, there will be a special showdown for local DJs to showcase their talent on Friday, November 4 . So far, confirmed deejays are Nathan Tunes and the 2016 Carlsberg Chill DJ Battle winner DJ Trick. A number of top radio DJs are expected to complete the line-up.

Finally, the icing on the cake this year is the UMP Awards on Sunday, November 6  at the BAT Ground where the 2016 best of the best in Malawi Urban Music will be announced and awarded.

Performances on the day will be headlined by Gemini Major and Popp Dogg plus leading local stars, including Nepman, Sonye, Martse, Sangie, Theo Thomson, Blaze, DNA, Bucci, Fredokiss, Daredevilz, Home Grown African, Charisma, Malinga Mafia, Phyzix, Dezert Eagle and others yet to be announced.

There will also be an open mic session (upcoming artists to pay a nominal fee of MK5000 to step on stage for exposure) and a rap freestyle battle where last year’s winner Able is looking to defend the crown. Dance displays will also be featured on the day.
