Coach defends squad changes

Nyasa Big Bullets have challenged Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) verdict to slap them with a K500 000 fine for failing to control one of their supporters during a Carlsberg Cup match against Cobbe Barracks last week.

In its ruling, FAM through its competitions subcommittee, found the People’s Team guilty of misconduct as outlined in articles 24.1 and 24.2  of the Carlsberg Cup rules and regulations.

RVG: It is part of his rebuilding process

“NMC Big Bullets FC was found guilty of failing to take precautionary measures to control their supporter, Lyton Thobo Kabuwaza, from bullying Cobbe Barracks players when he poured liquid substance on them as they walked to the dressing room at half time. Bullets supporters committee even aided Kabuwaza in escaping police arrest.

“In line with the rules and regulations, NMC Big Bullets Football Club are fined the sum of K500 000 to be paid before the team’s next official fixture,” reads part of the verdict signed by the association’s general secretary (GS) Alfred Gunda.

FAM has also banned Kabuwaza from entering any stadium “hosting association football in Malawi as well taking part in any football related activities for the rest of the 2017 season.

“NMC Big Bullets Football Club is ordered to ensure compliance of the ban imposed on Mr. Lyton Kabawaza”.

However, responding to the judgement, Bullets GS Albert Chigoga questioned FAM’s move to punish them without hearing their side of the story.

“Is it in keeping with natural justice to fine us before being heard and not even being charged for the purported offences? Are we not being unfairly treated as a team?

“Now you would like us to appeal the verdict. I do not want to think that this was predetermined that Bullets would be penalised  come what may.  As [an] FA, exercise fairness because as a team we are already burdened by these fines and you all know it,” reads part of Bullets’ response.

“Our executive does not condone unsporting behaviour but we cannot be cowed into submission without being heard. We demand to be heard first before being judged.” n
