If I were

Cornelius Mwalwanda

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) deputy director of economic planning, I would realise that the reason why the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rejected my application to rejoin the party was because of my reputation of not being loyal.

If I were Mwalwanda, I would have thought twice before reapplying to the DPP considering the way I dumped the party following the death of former president, the late Bingu wa Mutharika.

Oh yes, if only I were the former deputy finance minister, I would appreciate the value of having principles because in that way, I would not be changing parties like clothes.

How I wish I were bwana Mwalwanda, because in the first place I would realise that it was an insult to try and rejoin a part I ditched and expect to be welcomed back with open arms.

If I were sibweni (uncle) Mwalwanda I would conduct some soul-searching regarding my political career because the picture I am portraying out there is that I am in politics to advance my personal interests.

That is if only I were Cornelias Mwalwanda, but I am not that good ‘ol man, am I?
