The High Court in Blantyre on Wednesday revoked the bail granted to Ali Saidi Chinemba, a businessperson and 2014 losing contestant in Blantyre City South Constituency, and ordered his immediate arrest.

The court’s decision follows Chinemba’s absence at the commencement of full trial and his lawyer’s inability to explain his whereabouts.

Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said in an interview the trial, which is expected to end on July 24, will continue while Chinemba, popularly known as Ali Kaka, is in custody.

Said Mvula: “Chinemba is being charged in the High Court for the offence of murder contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.”

Chinemba pleaded not guilty to the murder charge when he appeared before High Court judge Dorothy Nyakaunda-Kamanga on June 23 this year.

During the earlier hearing, the State submitted documents, including a post-mortem report, mental hospital report, police statement and names of State witnesses to be paraded before the court.

Chinemba, 35, is answering murder charges following an allegation that he shot dead 20-year-old Dave Kadzuwa on August 4 2014. The deceased hailed from Chamtulo Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nankumba in Mangochi.

Following the incident, Chinemba handed himself to Soche Police Station and his residence was ransacked by angry residents.
