CR identifies Mapa Pool Singles representatives

Central Region Pool League (CRPL) on Saturday identified four players to represent the region at the Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) Singles National Tournament.

The finals, which will attract top players from all the three regions, will take place this Saturday in Karonga.

Orient Pool Club has dominated the list with two players, Christopher Kambala and Ashenafi Tarika.

Orient Pool Club has dominated the list with two players, Christopher Kambala and Ashenafi Tarika.  The other players are Gerald Nyirenda of Umqombothi and Mayamiko Mbeta of Queens Park. Mbeta was exceptional and turned out to be the hero of the day after he won three games during qualifiers. Kambala sailed through to the last four after he finished top of the five-member group with 12 points.  He won all the four games played in a round robin format. Nyirenda and Mbeta finished on second and third positions respectively with six points apiece. Tarika sneaked to the last four courtesy of head-to-head against Edwin Njobvu of Macheza Pool Club after tying at three points. Kambala said he is optimistic that the team will win the trophy. “The race was very competitive and tough. The region has produced the best crop and we are optimistic of bringing the trophy home,” he said. Central Region tournament director Brutus Ndhlovu cautioned the representatives of complacency at the national finals. 
