CSOs impress Tilitonse

Tilitonse Fund has reported greater rewards than challenges during the six years it has been operating in the country.

Speaking during a national conference in Lilongwe, Tilitonse Fund programme officer Tiyanjana Kazembe said the programme has made a difference in governance issues in communities.

“There was a noticeable gap in the governance and civil society organisations [CSO] sectors, hence, the programme. Tilitonse programme had a specific lifespan, however, we are transforming into a foundation that will be a permanent legal entity which will continue funding governance projects,” said Kazembe.

She said the programme reached out to 127 CSOs and community-based organisations (CBOs) with a budget of £19 million Sterling (K18.43 trillion) over six years.

Nkhadze Alive Youth Organisation (Nayorg) executive director Charles Sinetre said the Tilitonse-funded projects Nayorg carried out have been a huge success in Balaka.

“Specifically, Tilitonse governance projects wanted to improve accountability, responsiveness, transparency and inclusiveness among duty-bearers,” Sinetre said.

Balaka West member of Parliament Patricia Dzimbiri said with funding from Tilitonse, Nayorg has managed to influence inclusion of youth in most development committees such as village development committee (VDC), area development committee (ADC) and full council meetings. n
