If I were

Devlin Chokazinga, Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) chief executive officer, I would do something about the sale of beer sachets which is having an effect on the health of many people in the country, particularly the youth.

If I were Bwana Chokazinga, I would appreciate that it is the bureau that has the authority to address the situation.

Yes, while it is difficult to ban the manufacturing of beer sachets, a better option would be to reinforce the increase in price or reduce the percentage of alcohol in sachets.

I would realise, if I were the MBS boss, that the situation has led to people, in particular the youth, becoming unproductive as all they think about is imbibing beer sachets and in some cases it has led them to indulge in unruly behaviour. In other instances, it has even led some married people to fail to perform conjugal duties.

If I were Chokazinga, I would take the first step to consult government on how best to tackle the situation, which is getting out of hand.

As rightly observed by the Young Achievers for Development (YAD), while companies manufacturing the sachets are contributing to the national economy, the hazardous effects of such type of business should not be overlooked by authorities.

That is if only I were the big shot at MBS. Unfortunately, I am not one Devlin Chokazinga.
