They included gumboots, raincoats, bicycles, solar torches, whistles, T-shirts and rain-gauge worth K50 million.

Speaking after presenting the tools, Chikwawa Diocese Vicar General Monsignor Cosmas Chisukwa said the trees will help to reduce flooding in the area.

“The Lower Shire has always been affected by natural disasters such as floods. These trees will play a bigger role in reducing the problem. I thank Ubale Village Community Protection Committee for taking a leading role in planting the trees,” he said.

Chikwawa district disaster risk reduction management coordinator Francis Kadzokoya thanked Cadecom for the donation.

“It will enable us to respond to natural disasters on time,” he said.

United States Agency for International Development (USaid) provided funds for buying the tools. n
