“We have been told that a tyre burst and lost control of the vehicle before it overturned, he sustained serious injuries in the process which led to his loss of life. Of course, he was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. After consultations, burial program will be known.

“It’s a big loss to us. He was a very active secretary general, he worked very hard to unite the party and he is someone we are going to miss. It’s really hard for the party to accept that we have lost such a key figure,” mourned Kasaila in an interview earlier.

According to police, Kudontoni was travelling to Kasungu from Lilongwe when the accident happened.

“As he was driving towards Kasese trading centre before Bua road block, the front tyre of the vehicle he was driving got burst. He lost control in the process and the car overturned several times. He was picked to Kasese Health Centre by well-wishers,” said Dowa Police Publicist, Kondwani Kandiado.

Hailing from Salima, Kudontoni, who once served as a member of parliament in the United Democratic Front regime, was appointed DPP secretary general in January 2015.
