Eagles take revenge on Nomads

Blue Eagles yesterday lived up to their promise to avenge the 0-1 loss they suffered to Be Forward Wanderers in the Fisd Challenge Cup a week ago at Kamuzu Stadium.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) side used home ground advantage to displace Kamuzu Barracks at the top of the TNM Super League after a 2-1 victory over the Nomads at Nankhaka ground.

Eagles now have 48 points followed by Kamuzu Barracks who have 46 points.

Nyasa Big Bullets are third with 45 points while Mafco are fifth with the same points.

Wanderers showed some signs of repeating the Kamuzu Stadium feat.

Striker Jabulani Linje slotted past a helpless Eagles goalkeeper John Soko just five minutes before half-time, from a goal-mouth scramble after a long throw in from Bongani Kaipa.

Eagles replied a couple of minutes later through Vitumbiko Kumwenda who pounced on a rebound from Stuart Mbunge’s hard shot which was fumbled by Wanderers goalkeeper Vales Kamzere.

Defenders Stanley Sanudi and Foster Namwela were at fault for failing to clear the ball.

Mbunge scored the winner in the 86th minute when he volleyed into the roof from 25 yards past Kamzere.

“It’s a sweet victory. It was an open game and we created good chances and got three points. We thank God,” said Eagles coach DeKlerk Msakakakuona.

Wanderers coach Yasin Osman blamed the loss on “bad” decisions from referee Duncan Lengani. n
