Escom Sisters, Tigresses intensify battle for top spot

Escom Sisters and Bingu Tigresses continued to choke minnows with pounding victories on Saturday in the battle for the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League’s (SRNL) top spot.

The defending champions Escom Sisters walloped Chitakale Sisters 108-10 at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) while Bingu Tigresses pressed hard on Chiradzulu Sisters with an 89-30 triumph.

At present, Tigresses top the log table. Both sides have won all their three games but Tigresses have scored 286 baskets against 46 while the Sisters have notched 250 against 47 let-ins.

“You never know we might tie on points with our rivals at the end of the league season and the baskets would be our solace. We have to score as many baskets as possible in order to be on top and to avoid missing the title defence on aggregate,” said Escom Sisters assistant coach Noel Mussa.

On the other hand, MTL Queens beat Woget Stars 49-21 to scrape their way to the third position . In other games, Rock Queens thrashed bottom-placed Aquaid Queens 53-17 whereas Prison Sisters earned a 25-24 win over Chilomoni Sisters before slumping to a 40-30 loss to Triggers.
