Eunice Makangala pool tourney launch today
Blantyre City Central Parliamentarian Eunice Makangala will launch a pool tournament to the tune of K400 000 (about $1 000) today.
According to the publicity secretary of the tournament Dave Malunga, the launching ceremony will take place at Carport Arena in the township from 12.30pm and Makangala, who is also Labour Minister, is expected to be the guest of honour.
“The tournament will be called Hon. Makangala Pool Tournament and it will throw- off next Saturday.
“The tournament is open, but we are targeting a maxi- mum of 20 teams because we want it to be manageable,” said Malunga.
He also said the tournament will not be restricted to teams from Blantyre City Central constituency only.
“So, teams from Ndirande are encouraged to take part and registration is currently under way.
The tournament will run for three months and thereafter the top eight teams will automatically qualify to participate in an eight-team bonanza,” he said.
Malunga also said Makangala decided to sponsor the tourna- ment having been impressed with how the Thompex Pool Tournament was managed.
