Kapito: Kachali is greedy

Outspoken Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito has described former vice-president Khumbo Kachali as a fortune-seeker who is looking for favours from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Kapito was reacting to Kachali’s remarks that he did not endorse DPP and its presidential candidate Peter Mutharika prior to the May 20 polls with an aim of being considered for a position in government.

In a statement issued on August 18, Kapito lambasts the former vice-president, telling him to desist from “making himself a Saint of doom”.

“Cama disagrees with the retired vice-president Khumbo Kachali’s sentiments that his late endorsement of Democratic Progressive Party [DPP] in the run-up to the May elections was not out of ‘political greed’.

“Hon. Kachali is simply looking for sympathy and favours from the current administration,” said Kapito in his statement, further describing Kachali as an “accident vice-president”.

The consumer rights activist said Kachali’s behaviour only shows how greedy some politicians can become when they are desperate for power.

He said it was obvious to every person that the former vice-president only started praising DPP after realising that he would be dumped by the former ruling People’s Party (PP) and would not be picked as a running mate.

But Kachali told The Daily Times on Monday that his action was not meant to buy any favours from government in form of appointment for any government position because as a retired vice-president, he was not complaining because he was still serving his constituents.

“It’s high time people departed from the mindset that when one shows an interest or supports a certain party, the next thing is being appointed to some position. Let’s get away from this type of politics where people always expect a reward,” Kachali told The Daily Times.

He should realise that Kachali declared his support for APM before and not after elections. He should shut up commenting on everything. CAMA has failed to grow because he treats it like a personal estate, he talks of governnce when CAMA is the least accountable grouping in Malawi, reaping off donors and himself is the SAINT OF DOOM. Consumers are being reaped off by traders he collects money from Asians to look the other way. Mr. Kapito uses CAMA as his political platform, his greed has seen him become Director for Life and Consumers getting a raw deal

  2. The worse and idiotic lawyer the country has ever produced his John Kapito. His logic lacks substance. He behaves like a dog infected with rabbies. It was Kapito who failed to fair well with the late President Muthalika. It was the same animal had grudges against the only woman President of the Republic, Madam Joyce Mtila Kachale Banda and now he wants to begin bickling with Rt. Hon. Kachali. The worst greedy pig is Kapito. NO ONE should listen to him. We are tired of his unnecessary comments.
