has to be pursued

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has taken a hardline on the firm that was responsible for gate management at Dedza Stadium in Sunday’s TNM Super League game between Kamuzu Barracks and Big Bullets where a fan was arrested for stealing K247 000.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said Target Promotions and General Dealers will not be allowed to man the gates following their decision to ask police not to proceed with the case of Gift Mleme who was nabbed for pocketing the said money.

“This is a sensitive issue because if we let culprits go free in such cases, we will disappoint both current and potential sponsors.

“So, when we met at management level, it was decided that this issue should be pursued further and Target should explain why they took that route,” said Nyirenda.

The firm’s managing director, who only identified himself as Kaphwiyo, said they decided to close the case because the culprit showed remorse by admitting that he had taken the money.

“Since the money was recovered, we felt it wise not to proceed with the case,” said Kaphwiyo. Dedza Police publicist Edward Kabango confirmed that the case was closed on instruction from the complainant.

“Target Promotions were the complainant and when we were about to take the matter to court, one of their officials came and told us to discontinue with the matter,” said Kabango.
