Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said it has embarked on a consultative process with its stakeholders regarding the hiring of the next Flames coach.

The position is vacant following the expiry of caretaker coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan’s one month contract on September 10.

FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said: “We are not going to rush into hiring the next coach. We want to have a thorough consultative process which has already began.

“Among others, we will consult journalists, analysts, retired football players and administrators and the general public so that in the end, we should make the right recommendation to the FAM executive.”

He also expressed optimism that by October 22 a new coach would have been identified.

“After the consultative process, the technical subcommittee will meet at the end of this month to deliberate and them make a recommendation to the executive,” he said.

Nyirenda recently said about 60 coaches (55 foreigners and five locals) had enquired about the Flames job.

Reacting to the development, Soccer pundit Humphrey Mvula said: “It is encouraging that FAM has taken a consultative process.   The identification process needs to be open.” n
