FAM TD studying Flames opponents

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) technical director John Kaputa has said he is keenly studying Flames’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) opponents at the ongoing 2017 Afcon showpiece in Gabon.

The Flames are drawn in Group B alongside hosts Cameroon and Morocco.

“I have been studying both teams and from my early assessment, I have observed that they are playing fast football and attacking mainly through the wings other than the customary passing game. Their approach has been more physical,” Kaputa was quoted as saying by www.fam.mw yesterday.

He also urged the players to take an interest in studying the opponents.

“Yes, I would say we do not have a team and a coach in place, but that should not stop us from studying our opponents.

“Players who are hungry and confident of making it into the team should also take a deliberate interest to follow these teams.

“When a coach is identified, we will share notes and see how best we can prepare for these teams,” he said.

Flames captain Limbikani Mzava also said he is keenly following the two teams.

“I have been watching their games and I have learnt one or two things about their style that will be crucial as we look forward to meeting them,” said Mzava.
