FC Surestream now sit proudly at the summit of the Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division having toppled Bvumbwe Research over the weekend.

The academy outfit also did it to perfection by bringing Max Bullets’ unbeaten run to a halt on Sunday with a 4-2 comprehensive victory while on Saturday, they gave away a 1-0 lead in virtually the last minute of the game.

SurestreamSurestream now have 44 points from 18 games whereas Bvumbwe have been relegated to the second position with 42 points from 19 games. Bullets, who were the only team yet to taste defeat prior to the Surestream encounter, are third with 41 points from 20 games.

In the game against Bullets played at Surestream Stadium in Chilomoni Township, Surestream surged ahead barely three minutes into the game through slippery winger Mike Mkwate, but the visitors levelled the score three minutes later through Chasimbiwe Kanyika.

The Bullets went on to take the lead via Jeffrey Jalasi’s strike in the 20th minute, but with only a minute before recess, Blessings Phiri equalised for Surestream.

After the half time pep talk, Surestream completely dominated the proceedings and turned to their pass-and-move game that had their opponents gasping for air and it came as no surprise when they scored two more goals through Tony Biasi and Ishmail Chirwa in the 71st and 79th minutes and it was job done.

Surestream’s technical director Peter Mponda said it was a wonderful feeling to go top of the league.

“The journey is not even half-way through so we cannot get carried away, we are aware that we’ll not be at the top of the table for long, but that we are up there, gives us a lot of confidence,” said Mponda whose side was only promoted to the Premier Division at the start of the season having emerged champions in Division One.

Bullets director Max Kapanda said loss of concentration towards the end contributed to the loss.

“It’s sad that our unbeaten run has been brought to a halt, but I guess it is part of the game, we just have to pick ourselves up and move on,” said Kapanda.
